Somebody To Love

So once more I turn to the dating sites. Although I could now see that it would be difficult to get a visa for someone from Ukraine, I believed that I would be able to do so and would try very hard to help the right person. I liked a lot about the country and had come to the conclusion that my best chances still fell in this part of the world. Generally, there was a different attitude by women to their husbands or partners that I liked. They placed great emphasis on family and preserving a partnership and if I could one that added love to this relationship then it would be excellent. Ukraine girls and young women were pretty and I felt a natural attraction to them. Life for many was still hard, with earnings low and even my modest lifestyle would be quite an improvement for many.

I wanted to find someone who would be happy with me, my age and appearance, my circumstances and where I live. I am not going to offer anyone a 'Castle in Gozo'.

In March 2019 I found Olga Savina. I believe she is the one I need.

In late April I went to Zhytomyr and met her for the first time at her apartment. We spent a lovely ten days or so at an apartment I rented in the town near one of the parks and later for a couple of days at her apartment. I had none of the previous doubts or uncertainties that had occupied my mind with Inna. I am not going to make comparisons or compare notes in any way. I just know that I am 100% more content and totally relaxed and sure about Olga.

I returned in late June and stayed with her, taking occasional trips out and about to interesting places.

I visited again in August and celebrated her getting accepted for a UK Visitors Visa.

In September Olga arrived safely at Luton Airport and I brought her back to Astcote, where stayed with me for three weeks. We saw a lot of England, Portmeirion, the Cotswolds and the stones at Avebury and Rollright in the pouring rain. We even had a day trip to London and I enjoyed this so much more than the last one I had made in 2013. We also had a most lovely time here in the village doing not much at all really. I had cleared the house finally of much more rubbish and had a new carpet fitted downstairs. It actually looks quite a smart place now and I am much happier to have visitors, not that anyone does call these days.

In early December I flew out to Zhytomyr and brought Olga back with me on the 15th to stay here over Christmas and New year too. She went back on 5 January.

On 10 February I went out to Zhytomyr and returned on the 25 February. While was there we made plans to get married on 27 April. I would arrive on 22 April to get various documents notarized and translated. On 30 April we would fly to Malta and stay at a nice apartment in Qala on Gozo for ten days, returning in time for Olga's birthday on 12 May.

That was the plan but the corona virus put paid to all that. The April wedding and May Gozo trips have all had to be cancelled and, after two months apart we are now meeting via Skype each Sunday evening at 7:30pm my time. It's nice to see each other and Olga's English is getting better so we can communicate on important things pretty well now. I bought her pastels at Christmas and she is doing some wonderful work with them. I had brought back a couple of drawings of Andy Groom's little terrier and one of Rocky, the family's Husky who had died recently. Both were very well received but particularly the one of Meggie, Andy's little dog. that picture now takes pride of place above his fireplace. Marvellous work.

Now I have no idea when we will be able to hold each other again, let alone pursue our wedding and holiday plans. Time is flying by, though, and I am doing my best to stay healthy and free of infection. She is doing the same although it does not seem to have affected Ukraine much at all.

I have bought tickets to fly in June and July. I had some for May but they've already been cancelled and the money refunded. At present I cannot land in Ukraine anyway and even when I can I suspect that I may have to have two weeks' quarantine and, unlike, Uk's plans, I would not be able to send it with Olga but may be taken to some hospital or other unpleasant place for two weeks. So, until that changes I am pretty much stuck here.
