We travelled up in Kirri's car as he had now passed his test and the Jetta was happy to do 100+ on the stretches where no cameras were obvious! It was a nice drive and we were there by early evening and met Katie and a few others who had made it to the venue as well. I had booked accommodation in an annexe of a house owned by the person that had been the model for the James Bond books!
The wedding took place in a delightful wood which people, mainly Fiona, had decorated very prettily. It was may and the weather was fabulous, almost too hot at the reception in the grounds of a nearby castle. Anne worked extremely hard throughout the whole of the time to make sure everyone was comfortable and well-looked-after.
Later in the evening the midges did start to bite but it had been a great day. Kirri got to be the chauffeur, driving the bride to the wedding place and then taking them off afterwards back to reception. I got the final gig, though, by chance and had great fun churning up the gravel and spinning then around as we left for the castle where they would spend their first night.
That was a nice wedding and good to see many people I had not seen for many years.
My Corgi business was developing very well now. I was getting regular orders from people all over the world and my stock had expanded quite substantially. A number of collectors had asked me to manage their collections for them so I was happy to oblige. I probably spent as much as I received so there was no great profit or business a such but there was plenty to do and occupy my days. Definitely better than teaching although I did need to watch my money. There was not a lot around and I was just getting by.
The whole idea of developing the Corgi Toy catalogue was going very well, though and I was slowly getting some really good examples of the rarer models too. I had found a new career of sorts!
In the summer I took Bryony to look at Leeds University and we visited my 'Aunt' or second cousin Margaret who would have been 80. She hadn't changed a bit since she was 60! I was glad to have made the effort and really want to try and get to see her again before she departs this world as she knows so much about my mother's family and she will be the last of the relatives on that side. She is also sitting on a fortune in the land where she lives but I don't think I will be the closet relative to any entitlement unfortunately. I do need to establish some connection, though, so that all doesn't just disappear one day.
In September I lost my last uncle when Little Joyce's dad, Stan died. I met Rupert at the funeral and gave him a Corgi Saint's Volvo as a late birthday or early Christmas present.
