I returned to England a few days after getting married. It was a pity but my tickets were not easy to change and I wanted to sort out some business and then go back again as soon as I could. In fact I had a ticket for about a month's time and those four weeks would fly by.
Back home there was a lot to do. I told a few people that I was married. Steve and Jason, of course, were the first to hear when I got back. I was going to tell everyone that I was engaged and that we'd get married when Olga came here but I decided to be honest and tell them the real situation after all. Kirri and Emma were pleased and passed the news around for me. I was a little concerned at how Nimali would react but all was well. Katie and Russell seemed fine too. I reckon most people will have been surprised as I had rather gone off the idea of marriage but here I am at 68 and the chance of having a lovely lady to live with me. I can only get here here as my wife so that's how it has to be.
I took a trip to Soham to see Charlie & Jo Clarricoates. They were pleased too which was nice. They've been very good friends over the years even though I rarely see them these days. Charlie also gave me a bundle of notes for the various web jobs I'd been doing and that was very much appreciated. However, several years on, I am still waiting for some text and content for several areas!! I changed his site to the new Google type, however, which was not too difficult apart from getting it to display as charlies-dogs.com in the browser. I have that problem every time with Google sites.
Kirri & Emma visited me here the next day after Charlie. I also caught up with Matti after a long time when he needed to be collected from work in Paulerspury. I'm glad that he has this job and can save a bit of money. this virus thing has interrupted his progress driving, though, which is sad. I do hope he gets this sorted out and passes.
Later in September I go back again. The UK is now in the Green Zone as far as Ukraine is concerned so no need for any complicated app download! That's a relief! However, Ukraine has closed its borders to foreigners. Very fortunately, I was able to get in as Olga's husband!! It really was very lucky that we did push through and get married in August. We had considered waiting for a later date to arise at first and, if it hadn't been such a long wait we would have done that but now I would not have been permitted to return for the wedding! We were lucky and I am grateful to Olga for her arrangement skills.
At the Border Control it was quite chaotic but, luckily, only a few of us to be dealt with. Some officer took my passport and marriage certificate and went off to check it. I was the first of this group to get through so all was well.
I had a lovely time there, with nice weather and we took some walks in the park across the road from the apartment block. That's a nice place and we went there a few times. I didn't have a car as we were happy just to be around and we wondered when we would be able to have a holiday and when she would be ready for her English test. These were the next things to sort out but there wasn't much we could do. My plan was to pop back to England and then return in November and then at Christmas and New Year. We would continue with the few weeks here and a few weeks there system until we got the visa arranged.
The visit was spoilt a bit when we were both a little unwell. I think I had a sort of cold and Olga was similarly affected. Obviously there was the fear that we'd caught the virus at first but we didn't have high temperatures and I didn't have a dry cough or lose my sense of taste or smell either. Olga was probably worse affected than me and it did tend to mean that we weren't particularly keen to go out unless we had to. So we didn't do much at all on that visit. I had a nice enough time, as I said, as it was super food and we enjoy each other's company. We just weren't on top form and generally were a bit lazy! I hoped to make up for that on my return in a few weeks.
